The infamous “haze” was particularly severe during my time in Singapore. For those of you who haven’t heard of the “haze” it’s extreme air pollution that is blown over much of South East Asia from slash and burn forest fires primarily in Sumatra and Kalimantan. These illegal fires quickly rage out of control and prevailing winds carry the smoke to Indonesia’s neighbours. It was particularly bad in 2015 due to the dry conditions caused by the El Nino.
